Morocco Minus the Camels by Mateo

Last week I went to Morocco with my grandparents and my family. It Is a very nice place to go on vacation. My favorite thing I did in Morocco was go the Sahara Desert.

One fact about the desert is that it used to be the bottom of the ocean, which is why there is so much sand there. You can find many fossils in the sand from 60 million years ago. Our tour guide bought me an ammonite fossil. It is like a sea snail. We stayed overnight in the desert in tents. The tents were very nice because they had air conditioning, beds, and a bathroom. Also, we got to ride camels. But something went very wrong. While my grandma was riding the camels, the guide forgot to check if all of our camels were tied together. So, when we started the ride, all of a sudden, my grandma yelled “my camel has disconnected from the group!” When we looked back, my grandma and my dad's camels were far away eating grass. So, the rest of us had to get off of our camels because our camel guide was freaking out. The guides could not stop their camels. Every time they got close, the camels would run away further. The camel guide tried to stop the camel but got kicked in the chest and did a back flip into the sand. My dad was able to jump off and he kept telling my grandma to “hold on to the bars as tight as she could!” The camel guide told my grandma to jump into his arms, and that he would catch her but he did not even try so she fell on her face, right next to a really big sharp rock. When we got back to Spain, we found out her lower arm is fractured.

On the bright side, the next day, my sister and I got to sandboard. We also, went to Marrakech and we saw snake charmers which are people that play music to venomous snakes including the viper and cobra, some of the deadliest snakes in the world. Our stay in Morocco was fabulous. Other than the camel rides I would really recommend going.

XOXO Mateo
